What is X-late?

X-late is a language translation bot for your multi-lingual team on Slack. It started as a simple Slack bot that helps teams translate messages between developers and clients speaking different languages. It preserves Slack's Markdown formatting and offers features like flag emoji reactions for translation.

How much does it cost?

We charge a flat fee of $9.99 which covers the first 200k characters every month. After 200k characters and up to 1 million characters, we split up the characters into 100k buckets and charge $4.99 for each bucket. After 1 million characters, we charge $0.00005 per character ($0.05 per 1000 characters).

Do you offer a trial?

We do offer a free trial of 30,000 characters when you install the app. You can use this to test out the bot and see if it works for you.

How do I use X-late?

Once you install the app, you can invite the @xlate bot to any channel and it will start translating the messages in that channel. By default it automatically translates anything that isn't in English into English. You can change the default language in the app settings. You can also translate with flag emoji reactions: react to any message with a country's flag emoji and the bot will translate it into that language.

How are the messages translated?

We use an AI-powered translation provider to process your messages. The translation may contain occasional errors. We do not train any AI models ourselves and we do not store translation data on our servers. You can read more in our privacy policy.

How many languages do you support?

We currently support 37 languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Czech, Danish, German, Greek, English (British), English (American), Spanish, Spanish (Latin American), Estonian, Finnish, French, Hebrew, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Latvian, Norwegian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Portuguese (European), Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, Chinese (Simplified), Chinese (Traditional).

How is the usage pricing structured?

We first charge a flat fee of $9.99 which covers the first 200k characters every month. After 200k characters and up to 1 million characters, we split the characters into 100k buckets and charge $4.99 for each bucket. After 1 million characters, we charge $0.00005 per character ($0.05 per 1000 characters).

How are characters counted?

We first parse the message formatting and identify the parts of the message that do not need translation. We then count the characters in the remaining text and only charge for those. This generally excludes URLs, code snippets, emojis, and similar content.

How do I cancel my subscription?

You can cancel your subscription at any time by clicking "Billing" on the home tab of the X-late Slack app. You'll keep full access to the product until the end of the current billing period. If you exceed the 200,000 character tier during that period, you may see an additional charge for the extra characters.

Who is behind X-late?

Hi! I'm Simon. I run a software development agency called X-Tech and regularly work with a team of developers and designers who speak different languages in Slack. I built X-late to solve our communication challenges, and it has helped my clients with multilingual conversations on Slack. I hope it helps you too.
